The History of
the Quarry Golf Course in San Antonio
At the turn-of-the-century
At the turn-of-the-century, San Antonio’s most unique golf
experience was the place where much of the state was carved from.
Originally a limestone quarry, the area now boasts fashionable shopping,
outstanding eateries, and of course, The Quarry Golf Club.
From a stone Quarry to a polished gem.
Perhaps the most famous moments for the old quarry was that it
supplied the cement for the State Capitol of Texas, not to mention many
of the landmarks in and around San Antonio. But in 1983, the cement
plant was closed and left with only history and memories (and land
beckoning a sprawling and more sophisticated San Antonio). Construction
for the Quarry course began in 1992 and San Antonio's newest gem of a
golf experience opened in November of 1993. Today, The Quarry Golf Club
is known across the country as the “must play” course for visitors and
residents of San Antonio alike.
Its gentle approach to service makes for a truly one-of-a-kind golf
outing -- one that is tailor-made for helping to create new memories of
one of the Alamo City's most historic sites.
